Hi there!!
I’m Gigi, an entrepreneur and a mom of two very creative kids who never stop asking questions and pursuing their dreams. After running the rat race of life, thinking I needed to pursue the “safe” job but constantly going “off track” and supposedly getting distracted, I finally asked myself: What makes me happy? And then: How can I teach my kids to live a life that makes them happy?
You see, I realized that I wasn’t really getting distracted when I taught piano from my home studio while raising kids and beginning a sewing business or when I decided to get my yoga certification and create a preschool yoga curriculum with stories I wrote myself. The years I spent working in the hospital as a unit secretary or as the coordinator for a surgeon’s office were just practice and extra education, teaching me a little bit more about myself. The year I worked three jobs as a children’s librarian, receptionist at a nephrologist’s office, and teacher at a music academy just highlighted my ability to learn on the job, tackle new things, and actually juggle them pretty well. (Fun note: I also became quite proficient in making peanut butter sandwiches while driving in between jobs).
The years have come and gone with me now almost 40 years old (two more years to go) and I still hear myself saying: what do I want to do with my life? The above examples are just a few things I have chosen as careers. I have worked everywhere from childcare to restaurants, managing volunteers to marketing, education to cybersecurity, medical administration to mud races. The fact is, I enjoy doing a lot of different things and I really like learning and being creative with what I learn.
As a mom of two children (currently ages 7 and 10), I hear my kids asking themselves: What do I want to do in life? What makes me happy? So, I am choosing now to focus my gears on helping my kids figure that out sooner rather than later. Not that they should figure everything out right now, rather I want to help them realize it is possible to follow their dreams even now. They don’t have to join the rat race and feel guilty for wanting to do something else. They can build skills now that will help them lead a life that they love. That’s the joy of life, right?! We have this gift of life. It is not a burden. It is not a list of what we “should” do or “should not” do. It is an opportunity to learn and grow and to put our own unique personality and gifts into the world.
As my mom used to say: “You don’t need to know all the answers, you just need to know how to find them.” I would add to that: there is not always just one answer. You can be what you want to be. If you can imagine it, it’s possible. That’s coming from a girl who grew up in rural Tennessee without electricity and plumbing for a few years. Of course, that’s another story for another time.
If you are also a parent who wants to help your kids create a life that they love, welcome! We have an adventure ahead of us!
